The Evolution of Aviasur: Operational Safety as our Core and our IS-BAH Stage 2 Milestone

At Aviasur, we understand operational safety as a fundamental principle behind every decision. Since our beginning, we have built the processes, infrastructure, and culture to ensure each operation meets international standards and delivers confidence to our clients.

Throughout our regional expansion, we have consolidated a network supported by certifications that validate our performance and continuously improve our processes. Among these, IS-BAO for flight operations and IS-BAH for ramp and FBO services stand out, along with complementary audits such as ARGUS GOLD. These certifications are part of how we operate and why our clients trust us.

In 2024, we strengthened our regional coverage with the new Aeronautical Maintenance Center in Uruguay, designed to serve Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, featuring a 1,500 m² hangar in Carrasco. This move allows us to respond faster, optimize spare parts logistics, and ensure operational continuity for clients across the southern cone.

What is IS-BAH and why does it matter?

IS-BAH (International Standard for Business Aircraft Handling) is the global standard for FBOs and ground service providers in business aviation. Its focus is on implementing a Safety Management System (SMS) proportional to the operation, with industry practices that reduce risk and enhance efficiency. It was launched by IBAC in 2014 and is continuously evolving.

IS-BAH stages reflect levels of maturity:

  • Stage 1: SMS infrastructure is established.
  • Stage 2: Risks are managed effectively and sustainably, demonstrating operational maturity.
  • Stage 3: SMS is fully integrated into business management and safety culture.

Our Milestone: IS-BAH Stage 2

In 2025, we achieved IS-BAH Stage 2 certification at our FBO an achievement that recognizes the effectiveness and maturity of our SMS in ramp operations and ground handling. This milestone adds to our IS-BAH registration and reinforces our commitment to operating beyond regulatory standards.

Aviasur’s expansion follows a clear logic: to grow while always ensuring the highest safety standards. Our maintenance centers in Chile and Uruguay expand our response capacity and facilitate both scheduled and corrective maintenance, with certifications and specialized tools for multiple aircraft models. By bringing hangars, spare parts, and technicians closer to clients, we reduce downtime and risks associated with unnecessary transfers.

IS-BAH Stage 2 marks a goal achieved. Now, we are moving forward with safety analytics (ramp data, LOSA-style observations, leading indicators), automated reporting, and stronger collaboration with suppliers so that every link in our service reflects the same culture. Our strategic objective is to sustain improvements and, when the time comes, advance to the next level of the standard’s maturity.
